Online poker players who participate regularly at online poker rooms from the comfort of their home or office desktop computer have often wondered if they can enjoy the same experience playing poker on a laptop. The simple answer is, yes!
The more complicated answer would be “yes, if your laptop is as well equipped as your desktop.”
Most of todays laptop computers are just as well equipped as desktop computers. However, laptops are not all made equal. The most common laptop computers are known as ‘Notebook’ computers. These are full size laptops with a screen display of 15.4 inches. Then there’s the latest design in laptops computers known as ‘Netbooks’. These are much smaller, sleeker designs, with a significantly smaller screen displays.
It’s not the size of the laptop itself that tends to cause a problem, but the performance and lack of comparable capabilities. Netbook laptops were designed to appeal to teenagers and college students; the type of people who simply want to play around, not conduct professional business, use multiple applications or run advances software systems. The hard-drive and memory are simply too small to run an online poker client quickly and efficiently.
The other thing to consider is your range of Internet connectivity. Laptop computers contain wireless modems, making them portable and highly versatile. If you have a USB wireless modem, such as Verizon’s 3G network, you should be able to travel just about anywhere and still have full-speed Internet access. If, however, you are connected on a router, your range of connectivity will be smaller.
So long as you stay within a Wi-Fi capable radius, you should have no problems. Wi-Fi isn’t only just found in your home or office (requires an installed router), but also in many establishments like coffee houses, cafes, business lobbies, sometimes even your local parks.
Playing Poker from a Portable Computer – NoteBook (full size laptop)

If you do not yet have an online poker account, you’ll need to register a new account once the download and installation are complete. From there, you should have no trouble finding and playing your favorite online poker games.
Playing Poker from a Portable Computer – Netbook (mini-laptop)
In most cases, if you’re using a Netbook laptop, we have to encourage playing online poker at a room with an instant-play option. The instant-play poker room is powered by Flash technology, and does not require a download. Simply click the “Instant-Play” or “Flash Poker” button and the lobby will load directly in your browser.
It is recommended to close all unnecessary programs that may be running, as this will help speed up your game play. The actual poker games may vary in the Flash version. Some offer a lower variety of game, while some may not even supply a tournament roster in Flash. Try to find a large, reputable online poker room so that you know you are getting the best Flash poker experience on your portable Netbook computer.
