If you are an intermediate tournament poker player, we recommend that you play a loose aggressive style (LAG) rather than a tight aggressive style (TAG). Below is the usual cycle MTT players go through before becoming pros.

When they start out playing their first tourneys: Super LAG, meaning they play way too many hands. Typically they are very poor LAGs and they would make a lot more money playing TAG.

When they are at the intermediate level like you: Controlled LAG is the way to go. The reason is that the LAG style gives you a volatility that is necessary to win tournaments often. It’s a high risk high reward strategy. Some players like Lilholdem954 and others use this seemingly reckless strategy to win more tournaments than average.

At the pro level: Mix of TAG and LAG, but with a tendency to gravitate towards TAG. This is the category of players that dominates the game of MTTs, like Mr Menlo and Daniel Negreanu. They are so good that they don’t need to play a loose style to gamble up a chip lead they could use later on. Before you get to their level, play a controlled LAG style.
